Animals are in their own special class known as the Kingdom Animalia. They are a living organism that feeds on other organisms to survive and create the circle of life. Fauna is another term that is used by zoologists and paleontologists when specific groups of animals are discovered in a certain time or place.
Approximately 575 million years ago, the first fossils that were found could have somehow represented a type of animal but it was not until about 542 million years ago that fossils became a more realistic picture of animal existence. Even at that, it is still not considered to be a true fact but science has made unspeakable leaps and bounds since then.
Each species of animal has their own characteristics, natural habitats, distribution and survival modes. To classify animals as a whole is very difficult but once they are broken down into individual groups and then into species you can discover a lot of history behind each animals life.
From the tiniest little insect all the way up to the gigantic mammals of the undersea world there is a massive amount of information available to humans, more so than there ever has been. Through years of research by professionals, we have been able to find out things that no one thought was possible. The more that we learn and know about each type of animal, we as humans can begin to protect our wildlife, especially the ones that are on the endangered species list.
Whether small, medium or large, animals are a part of our world and as humans we should feel lucky that we share our atmosphere with the many different species of animals.
We have a large selection of animal pictures and as everyone knows because of their own free spirit, they are not the easiest target for a photographer. Enjoy our pictures of animals that we have taken from many locations around the world.
