Water sports are becoming more popular everyday, even more so since kitesurfing began around 1998 and has caught the interest of many people. Local residents of the Valencia region as well as tourists join in these water sports at the Oliva Nova Beach when the winds whip across the waters.
Windsurfing used to be one of the main water sports but now people have advanced one notch and given kitesurfing a try. This is a sport that is full of action but it takes quite a bit more strength, coordination and concentration than windsurfing. For the people that have taken kitesurfing lessons or windsurfing lessons, the speed that they can reach depending on the wind is phenomenal. As the winds get stronger, so does the action and this in itself can lead to an exciting day on the Oliva Nova beach in Valencia, Spain.
Danger lies in any type of water sports but more so in kitesurfing as the long ropes and big kites can easily get tangled up. Bystanders should also be aware if watching the action at a close distance as the winds can send these kites flying, endangering beach goers especially if the participants are rookie surfers.
