Most kayaking companies can be found in Juneau, which is also a very popular cruise ship destination. We used Juneau for our alaska sea kayaking adventure, but before we did the real thing in the pacific ocean we had some easy kayak experince on the Mendenhall Glacier Lake. It wasn't the real sea kayaking experience on the Lake but it sure was a useful learning experience. Kayaking on Mendenhall Lake with Mendenhall Glacier in the background (model released).
