One of the most known alaskan symbols are sled dogs. The history of alaska sled dogs dates way back but the most prominent time in history was in 1925 when there was a dash by dog sled to bring medicine to children in Nome who were at risk by a life threathening disease. In an act to memorialize the alaska sled dogs and the event, so a race was organized and by 1973 the event had evolved into the Iditarod Race.
