The early morning glow of the sunrise over the Albayzin district of Granada, in Andalusia, Spain has been lighting up this old town district since the time of the Zirid kings in the 11th century.
First designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, and receiving and extension in 1994, the Albayzin district is situated on a hill opposite the Alhambra, the famous complex of Moorish palaces. The River Darro valley runs between the two very different sites.
Albayzin, also known as Albaicin or El Albaicin, is an interesting old world place with a North African atmosphere. Also, the town has the best places to view the magnificent Alhambra.
