Many acres near Roxburgh in Central Otago on the South Island of NZ, are decorated with apricot trees which flourish in the ideal temperatures, warm summers and cold winters. This orchard has trees filled with ripe apricots ready for picking and the onset of many long days of picking the fruit lies ahead for the owners of this orchard.
Central Otago, NZ produces approximately 6.6 thousands tons of fruit every year which is shipped on to the local processers, but a majority of the fruit is divided between the various markets on the South Island. Many of the local residents of Central Otago are employed in the commercial fruit picking business, with apricots being a very large part of the survival rate for the economy.
