The Aranui Cave has a variety of appealing and spectacular limestone formations creating amazing cave walls. The Aranui Cave is named after a Maori man who discovered this one particular cave of the Waitomo Caves in 1910 as he chased a wild pig. The enormous Aranui cave displays mass ranges of limestone and coral formations, straw stalactites and extremely high chambers of formations.Aranui has a natural cave entrance and is considered to be the littlest with the finest structure of the three main caves of Waitomo. The Aranui is a dry cave and very little life exits past the front entrance. You will find a colony of New Zealand cave wetas near the opening and a little further in you will find the most exquisite collection of stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and decorative formations.
