The wildlife on the arctic ice floes in the Gulf of St Lawrence in Canada. Female Harp Seals use the pack ice as a platform to give birth to their pups. The females frequently return to their pups to suckle but only for a two week period following their birth. During the suckling period the females do not eat which is why the suckling period is so short. After two weeks the pups are left fend for themselves and to moult their fluffy white coats.
