This baby harp seal is covered in a white coat of fur which if perfect for its habitat, the pack ice. Baby Harp Seal pups more than triple their birth size in the first two weeks of their lives by feeding on the rich milk produced by their mothers.
Most of this weight is blubber and they lose around 10 kg during a four to five week fast which they begin around 2 weeks of age.
