The lovely town of Bagni di Lucca situated on the banks of the Lima River in Tuscany, Italy reached the peak of popularity in the early 19th century as a very elite spa. Many celebrities such as Puccini, Shelley and Byron, royalty and the rich gentry flocked to 'Bagni' to enjoy the thermal waters.
As early as the 17th century the waters at Bagni di Lucca in Tuscany had become well-known to the nobility of the time, and even today the elegant buildings reminds one of 'dignified splendor' of that era.
Elisa Baciocchi, Napoleon's sister enjoyed the spas in Bagna di Lucca to such an extent she spent her summers there. Napoleon gave her the title of Princess of Lucca.Visitors to the town of Bagni di Lucca in Italy, can still 'take the waters' and enjoy mud baths, steam grottoes or a full treatment package.
