Stock photo of the Beach Boys patrolling the surf at Piha Beach in New Zealand's North Island. Most Beaches around New Zealand are patrolled during the summer months by volunteer surf life guard members. Many of the west coast beaches are treacherous and keep these Beach Boys very busy during peak times. Many lives have been spared, because of the efforts and time devoted by volunteer life guards all around the country.
