Many people throughout Europe participate in many of the bicycle races that are held yearly in the different areas of Italy. This particular race heads through the streets of Bagni di Lucca in Tuscany, Italy with many entrants keeping up an appropriate pace.
The most popular countries for bicycle races are Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, the Netherlands and Switzerland. It started in 1868 as a sport that was fairly well run and organized with the first world championship being in 1893. In 1896, road races became a part of the Olympics and has continued since spreading its popularity throughout the world, which has and still remains a huge sporting event in Italy.

... these bicycle races will start at a common starting line and when the gun goes off, the race begins until the leader finally crosses the finish line. Sometimes races are for individuals while others are team timed trials, but all of them use the basic techniques and rules of road racing on bicycles.
It is an interesting thing to watch if you are lucky enough to see the cyclists race by while in Tuscany, Italy or somewhere near that the races are underway. One never knows what sort of excitement will be happening on your vacation to Tuscany, especially in the smaller towns like Bagni di Lucca.
