Church steeples and colourful buildings stand out along the shoreline in Bonavista, a historic fishing town situated on the Bonavista Peninsula of Newfoundland.
Bonavista was discovered on behalf of England by a Venetian explorer by the name of Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot) on June 24, 1497. The town later became the most important in Newfoundland due to its close proximity to the rich fishing and sealing grounds off the coast of the peninsula.
