Connected to Doge's Palace or Palazzo Ducale in Venice, the Bridge of Sighs was how prisoners crossed Rio del Palazzo on their way to the prosecuters and the old prisons.
The Bridge of Sighs was constructed in 1600 and takes it name from the lamentations coming from the prisoners as they made their way to the inquistors and to have judgement passed.
