Dusk settles on the old Roman Amphitheatre, now the Piazza Anfiteatro in Lucca, a city in the Tuscany region of Italy, and the lights come on in the building. The Roman Amphitheatre dates back to 180 BC, but most of the buildings that still stand today were built during the 19th century by famous Lucca architect Lorenzo Nottolini, who cleared out the space and built the buildings around the outside on the original Roman foundations, which is why the area today still retains the original shape of the Amphitheatre.
The buildings such as this one, that line the outside are simple in design but colourful, and is in the same style as many on the Liguria coast. Many of the buildings are either a bright yellow colour or a more subdued shade of brown such as this one here, which is characteristic of the nearby Siena province where most of the houses are in the brown family. ... continue below the picture...
