One of the four stages of the life cycle of a butterfly is the pupa or chrysalis stage. At the Victoria Butterfly Gardens in Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia you can view this chrysalis stage at a close range. Information is available so you can learn each stage of a butterfly's life and the process it takes to get to become a butterfly.The chrysalis of many different species of butterflies is created in an open space and they attach themselves to various surfaces by a velcro like material. You could watch this chrysalis for days on end and see absolutely no change but in reality there is a lot going on in the interior.Three separate changes occur inside the chrysalis, the head, thorax and abdomen develop and then the wings as the butterfly awaits the adult stage.
