A suggestion by the McCartneys during a recent visit to the ice floes in the Gulf of St Lawrence in Canada is to promote Ecotours to replace the annual harp seal hunt. During the winter months, the Gulf of St Lawrence is a mass of pack ice where female harp seal haul out each spring to give birth to their seal pups. These cute fluffy young animals display no fear of humans as they rest on the ice, at peace in their pristine white surroundings. Canada could promote Ecotours in the Atlantic regions to visit the harp seals, as a sustainable industry.
