Situated a the western most point of the Taranaki coastline, the Cape Egmont Lighthouse was first installed on Mana Island, north west of Porirua, in 1865. Due to its unsatisfactory location it was moved to Cape Egmont in 1877. Looking from the coast, there are fabulous views of the lighthouse with Mt Taranaki in the background - though it is a seldom sight to see the peak of the mountain, which is usually shrouded in clouds.
