The fascinating colors of the sky across the horizon at sunset brings darkness to the Wairarapa Coast and the beacon of the Castlepoint Lighthouse begins to shine. Brilliant colors at sunset from the diminishing rays of the sun makes the water glisten and reflect the surrounding landscape.The light at the Castlepoint Lighthouse was lit for the first time on January 12th, 1913 and the keepers were withdrawn in 1988. In 1954, the light was changed from oil to electricity from a diesel generator and was eventually connected to the main electrical power source in 1961.The light from the lighthouse shines from a 23 meter high white iron tower and sits at 52 meters above sea level. The white light of Castlepoint Lighthouse which actually looks yellow at sunset, can be seen by water vessels for 26 nautical miles.The Wairarapa Coast where Castlepoint Lighthouse stands is an amazing place during the day where tourists flock to the beach but as evening rolls around each night, the sunset turns the Wairarapa Coast into a picturesque sight. ... continue below the picture...
