The setting sun over the city of Frankfurt and the Main River illuminates some of the tall buildings, the trees by the side of the river and the reflection on the water. This is the largest city in the state of Hessen, with a population of around 670,000, but it is also a popular tourist spot for visitors to Germany.
The full name ie "Frankfurt am Main" means 'Frankfurt on the Main', meaning the Main River, the river by which it is located along side. The Main River is actually quite shallow and was used as an easy crossing point before the bridges were built across the river. As the city is situated on the river, is the transportation and trading point in Germany, and it is the financial centre in the continent of Europe.

The Main River is 524 km long and is a tributary of the Rhine River. It is wide enough for shipping, but not too wide that it is not navigable, and there are often many tourist boats on the Main River as well.
