The charming white washed, rose-coloured roofed mansions of Albayzin district of Granada, Andalusia, built in the architectural style of the Moors, have been repaired when necessary through the years, but have basically stood the test of time.
Moors evacuated the town of Baeza (just 9 miles away) in 1227, after they were overthrown by Ferdinand III of Castile. Thousands settled in Albayzin, one of the oldest quarters of the city of Granada, Spain. The large mansions the settlers built still have walled courtyards with fountains and lovely flower displays. The Moors were a wealthy people and maintained their privacy behind these gated courtyards.
Today, the Albayzin district of Granada in Andalusia, Spain has winding cobblestoned streets with Middle Eastern style restaurants, craft shops and Moroccan tea rooms. ... continue below the picture...
