The chilly waters of New Zealand's smallest national park, Abel Tasman, look deceptively tropical but they are indeed cold even though they bask in the most sunshine hours of the whole country.
The azure colour of these coastal waters comes from the reflections off the fine granite sand which is also found fringing the many golden beaches and hidden coves of the park. Kayaking in the Abel Tasman National Park is considered to be the best in New Zealand.
Encounters with curious wildlife such as dolphins, seals, and penguins often happen during a kayaking excursion.
