In the sunlight that shines across a field beside the road at the Passo Montecroce in South Tyrol, Italy, crocus flowers open and show off their center pieces. Surrounded by the green leaves growing on the field, the purple, lilac and white crocus flowers adorn the landscape for miles and create a beautiful image for a picture.
These flowers grow to be around three to five inches tall and are mainly found growing in the woodlands, scrubs and meadows. As the day comes to a close and the sun dips behind the Dolomite Mountain Range in South Tyrol, Italy, the crocus flowers also send themselves to bed by closing up their petals around the yellow centers.
The crocus flowers were very important to the European settlers as once they saw these flowers appear across the landscape, they knew Spring was on its way.
