Over many years, the fossil forest at Curio Bay along the Southern Scenic Route in Otago, New Zealand has been created and to see this is a unique experience. The fossil forest is situated on a tidal platform along the sea cliffs of Curio Bay and depending on the tide there can be a great deal of bared tree trunks.A fossil forest includes remnants of trees, leaves and forest debris that is found around the area of their original growth place. They are fascinating items of nature that give us some incite into the climatic conditions around the time that they were living.Some of trees in the fossil forest at Curio Bay, Otago coincide with the kauri and Norfolk island pines where plant imprints date back as far as 160 millions years ago.
