The Alpine Marmot stands tall on his rocky cliff of the Dolomite Range in South Tyrol, Italy watching over his terrain and alert to any unusual noises. This cute brown Alpine Marmot belongs to the squirrel species and is known to be the largest of this family.
The Alpine Marmot resides in the mountainous areas and can be found in the southern and central parts of southern Europe. During the winter months the Alpine Marmot hibernates in an underground tunnel dwelling and reappears in the spring but never traveling too far from its burrow.
The Falzarego Pass in South Tirol, Italy is an ideal location for hiking and to catch a glimpse of a cute brown marmot or two. Keep your eyes open for the Alpine Marmot to be sitting on the rocks where he can keep his guard up for any danger arising.
