Listed as endangered, the Yellow Eyed Penguin is thought to be the most ancient of living penguins as well as the rarest of penguin species with an estimated population of around 4000.
These cute penguins are found along the south east coast of the South Island of New Zealand, as well as Stewart Island and some off shore islands such as Campbell Islands, and Auckland Islands. The Yellow Eyed Penguin is a cute bird which has pale yellow eyes and a bright yellow band which runs from the eyes to the back of its head.
