The Dolomite view from the pretty little town of Sesto in the South Tyrol of Italy is breathtaking, and depending on the weather or season the view is always different. Although the Dolomite Mountain Range looks quite forbidding, the valleys below are lush and green.
As most of the South Tyrol, including the Dolomite Mountain Range, belonged to Austria until after World War l, nearly all the towns and villages have both Italian and Austrian names, as an example - Sesto's Austrian name is Sexten. The Dolomite Mountains of Italy have the sharpest peaks in all Europe. Geologically speaking the Dolomites are relatively young - 200 million years old and formed from the primeval seas - which accounts for the craggy peaks, because the older each mountain is, the tops become softer and more round.
The little town of Sesto in the South Tyrol in Italy is an ideal place for a vacation, whether you wish to relax, take in the view and enjoy the peaceful surroundings or be more active by hiking, skiing or rock-climbing. ... continue below the picture...
