The Facade of the Palace of Charles V stands out as a huge and towering stone structure at the Alhambra in the city and province of Granada, Andalusia, Spain. This palace was built at the Alhambra after the Christians conquered the Moors.

The Palace of Charles V, known as Palacio de Carlos V in Spanish, is inside The Alhambra fortress in the city and province of Granada, in Andalusia, Spain. The Alhambra is a fortress built by the Moors in the 1300s on a hill so as to have a advantage viewing point over potential invaders to the city.

The Palace of Charles V was built in 1527, by the Holy Roman Empire Charles V. He wanted to live as close to The Alhambra as possible, and he wanted to have somewhere to live that would remind everyone that he was the emperor. The building of the palace was given to Pedro Machuca, who built the palace in a Mannerism style, which is both intellectual and artificial in its approach to architecture. ... continue below the picture...

The palace is all built around a square with a patio area in the middle, which was not common in the Mannerism style, making this structure ahead of its time. The patio also has two levels to it. The facade is complicated and filled with different design elements, but it is also very simple in its approach. It is very uniform, which gives the impression of symmetry and also the impression that the structure is huge and imposing. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain.
