Field of Russell Lupins, Lupinus polyphyllus, in the Eglinton River Valley in Fiordland National Park along the Milford Road, South Island of New Zealand.
One of my favorite shots from that series but also a challenging one. I needed a beautiful landscape, scenic shot for Fiordland National Park for a calendar project which should include some color and a typical landscape. When we found this large field of Russell Lupins I thought it would be a great spot, it was, but the extreme wind made it difficult to photograph.
So I decided to use the colorful lupins as a foreground and actually laid the focus on the trees to make them the main "attraction" of the picture, with the mountains in the background I had everything what I needed for this photo.
Only other problem was that we had to wait "forever" till we got at least a little bit light on the lupins to freshen up the shot. ... continue below the picture...
... By the way, waiting here for better weather really can take forever as the area is known for its massive rain falls and waterfalls.
I used a neutral density grad filter on the top to balance the exposure.
