This female harp seal was looking out for her 3 day old pup but she certainly made for a funny picture for our animal category.
She was aware of the camera so kept a close eye on her young pup by popping her head up through the hole in the ice. What makes her such a funny animal are the icicles which are frozen onto her whiskers. It sure is a hostile, cold place out on the ice floes in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
This photo is taken on the Ice Floes in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, north of Prince Edward Island, west of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland
