Garda Lake or Lago di Garda in the Trentino-Alto region of Northern Italy is one of three popular lakes in the area. Lake Maggiore and Lake Como are quite close to Milan, but Lake Garda, the largest of the three, is nearer to Verona and Venice. The little town of Torbole sits on the side of Mount Baldo and still seems to have preserved the old world atmosphere of a centuries old fishing village.Garda Lake in South Tyrol, Italy, is renowned as one of the best sailing and wind-surfing lakes in Europe, and is known internationally. Torbole is a favourite destination for artists and writers. When Goethe visited in 1786 he wrote of the beauty of the Lake of Garda and Torbole, a plaque commemorating his visit can be seen in the Town Square.Torbole in the Trentino-Alta region of Italy has its own Windsurfing Club.
