Houses painted in colorful hues line Golden Lane of the Prague Castle in Czech Republic that were originally built in 1597 for marksmen and their families. This construction was ordered by Emperor Rudolph II so that the men that resided in these homes could protect him from the many enemies that he had acquired.
In the later years, these cottages were used for goldsmiths and alchemists and this is how the name of Golden Lane came about. After some reconstruction, the cottages are now used as gift shops and exhibits of the medieval times and thousands of tourists come here yearly to browse or buy souvenirs from their trip to Prague in the Czech Republic.

Tourists from all parts of the world come to Prague Castle to venture through Golden Lane and as you stroll through the lane, a wide variety of languages can be heard. This narrow lane can become very crowded and during the summer months, the shops and cafes can also become very busy as the tourists are in and out of the doors.
When heading to Prague Castle in the Czech Republic, you must have a combined ticket to see the entire grounds of the castle and to get into the entrance to Golden Lane.
