The breathtaking chasm of the Gorges du Verdon is dubbed as one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in France. The Verdon River which is a tributary of the Durance River has cut into the rock an amazing 700 metres (2,300 feet) to create the tear in the landscape we know as Gorges du Verdon.
Gorges du Verdon is the second largest gorge in the world. A visit and a drive of the full loop road is rewarded with awe-inspiring scenery and views of nature - raw.
The Gorge runs between the towns of Moustiers-Ste-Marie and Castellane and has been set aside as a national park - namely Parc Naturel Regional du Verdon in the Alpes du Haute region of the Provence, France, Europe.
