Manufacturing is the primary industry in Ontario with the most important products being paper, iron, steel, chemicals, vehicle production, and machinery.
The main focus of Ontario's industry is centred around the Great Lakes where container ships can access the production towns and transport the goods anywhere in the great lakes system and even to the Atlantic Ocean. These towns include those in the Golden Horseshoe area which border Lake Ontario as well as in towns such as Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay, Sudbury etc.
