The quaint historic fishing village of Battle Harbour in Southern Labrador, was established in the 1770's by English firm John Slade & Company.
Battle Harbour was recognized as the salt fish capital of Labrador when the local population increased rapidly after the 1820's. With the decline of the inshore fishery and subsequent cod fish moratorium in the early 1990's, residents of the historic fishing village of Battle Harbour were relocated and resettled elsewhere.
