Once a medieval castle, the Imperial Palace Hofburg became a magnificent residence in the heart of Vienna under the rule of the Habsburgs of Austria.Today it is the office of the President of Austria instead of the Imperial family which inhabits the Hofburg Palace. The only remaining evidence of it's beginnings as a medieval castle in the middle ages is the Gothic Imperial Chapel. For more than 800 years the buildings have been added to which is evidenced by the many conflicting styles of architecture.Today tourists scurry about taking photos or enjoying horse and buggy rides through the grand entrance gates of the palace.
