As you drive along the North Island of New Zealand you will come to the spectacular town of Kawhia where a welcome sign displaying a Gannet is located. The Gannet is represented on the sign as Kawhia is home to Gannet Island, the largest breeding colony for Australasian Gannets throughout New Zealand.
The welcome sign is set in stone surrounded by a beautiful green patch of grassland and shaded by a tree that grows along the coastline. In the background, the stunning blue color of the water enhances the harbour where one can walk for miles along the beach without seeing any other people and a true sense of serenity is found.
Kawhia, New Zealand has a total of about seven hundred permanent residents with an unique charm about it that makes it hard for visitors to leave.
