Dating back to its establishment around 1883, Ketchikan Alaska has a mix of both old historic streets like Creek Street and is expanding with new buildings to keep up with growth. Built along a steep hillside, the town of Ketchikan Alaska has an extensive network of stairways leading up the surrounding hills from downtown.

Part of the town has also been built right over the water on pilings. Ketchikan Alaska also boasts an outstanding collection of totem poles.
