Of the two lakes in Nelson Lakes National Park, Lake Rotoiti is used as a recreational lake while Lake Rotoroa is a reserve which can be enjoyed by those desiring a peaceful getaway. Lake Rotoiti features a water skiing lane, swimming tubes, and several jetties and boat launches.
Brown trout also run in abundance in both Lake Rotoiti and Rotoroa and provide hours of fun for keen anglers.
For those with a hankering for the arts, Nelson Lakes area and in particular St Arnaud on the northern shores of Lake Rotoiti, is an artists paradise. The stunning alpine, forest, and lake scenery is an inspiration to many an artist.
