The Loarre Castle in Huesca Province of Aragon, Spain must have been a formidable sight to the enemy. Built in the 11th century in a similar style to the Middle East crusader castles, which was quite fitting because the Loarre Castle was located on the borders of the Muslim and Christian territories.The 2005 movie 'Kingdom of Heaven' starring Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson used Loarre Castle and surrounding area of Aragon, Spain as the setting for the beginning and ending of the movie. In an interview Liam Meeson was full of praise for the Loarre Castle and remarked on the beautiful sunsets.The outer walls and towers of the Loarre Castle were added during the 13th and 14th centuries and has been repaired and restored as needed through the years, the latest being in the 1970s.The Loarre Castle in Aragon, Spain is about 35 kilometers from the town of Huesca and for hikers the 'Camping Castillo de Loarre' is midway between the village of Loarre and the castle. ... continue below the picture...
