This large carved panel with Maori Symbols and Paua Shells is displayed at Whakarewarewa Thermal Area, Rotorua on the Northern Island of New Zealand. Inspired by their ancestors and surroundings, the Maori people convey their interpretation of legends and myths through their art which is a big part of their culture. Te Whakarewarewa is also a part of the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute which helps to keep the traditions of the Maori alive through the up coming generations.
