As winter approaches Switzerland, driving can become increasingly hard as the snow begins to pile up around the region. Many people use the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn which is a vehicle train, to get from point A to point B.The Furka Pass, where this picture was taken from, is at a higher elevation of the Swiss Alps and the winter conditions can get extremely hazardous. Driving through this pass in summer is very scenic and a lot safer than attempting these roads during the winter months.The Matterhorn Gotthard train line that runs through the Furka Tunnel in Switzerland was first opened in 1982 and sits higher than the original tunnel. The old tunnel sat at 2100 meters in the Swiss Alps and the replacement tunnel is at 2431 meters.The trip on the Matterhorn Gottard can be between one and two hours depending on the direction you are heading and a fair bit more expensive than driving. ... The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn runs all year so tourists can also enjoy the lush green scenery of the Swiss Alps in the summer months when taking the vehicle train.
