One of the not so well known tourist destinations in southern Bavaria is the medieval city of Freising in which I was born and raised. it used to be kind of a sleepy city, located about 35 Km north of Munich but as soon as the new Munich airport was built the city started to expand a lot.
Today Freising is welcoming more and more tourists from around the world. The latest boost as a vacation spot came when Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger became Pope Benedict XVI. He was appointed Archbishop of Munich and Freising in 1977. And the Freisinger Dom (Saint Mary Corbinian Cathedral it is the place where Pope Benedict XVI was ordained a priest. From the place where the Dom is located I photographed this city view of Freising.
Freising is a medieval city and received city rights in 996!
