The rugged coastline near Auckland on the North Island of New Zealand, is where a gannet colony nests and breeds on the rock cliffs above Muriwai Beach. Hundreds of gannets huddle together on the flat surface of the cliff while others take to the sky above the waves which crash along the rugged coastline.
There are approximately 1,200 pairs of adult gannets which come back to this rugged coastline every year to breed. The gannet colony thrives on the winds and sometimes wild weather which passes across this coastline. The best time of year to visit Muriwai Beach is from March to August.
