Guarded by a statue of the french explorer Samuel de Champlain, Nepean Point was developed in the early 1900's by the Ottawa Improvement Commission. The Astrolabe Theatre was later installed in 1967 as a vantage point to see the sound and light show on Parliament Hill during Canada's Centennial in 1967. Nepean Point also affords a great view of Hull, Quebec situated across the Ottawa River, as well as the Rideau River locks which are nearby Canada's parliament buildings.
