Bright green leaves in the foreground give this Kaka bird at the Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre in Wairarapa, New Zealand some privacy as his sits peacefully on a tree branch. In the wild, the Kaka loves to sit in the trees and is seen here for a good portion of day where they feast on the fruit and flowers.In the centre there is a feeding post in the open space where the kaka birds gather at meal time. Around 3:00 p.m. each day, visitors to the Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre in Wairarapa can sit and watch the Kaka birds come soaring from the trees through the wilderness for this feeding.
The birds can come to the feeding post on their own free will as this is a bird sanctuary where rare types of New Zealand birds reside, it is not a zoo.
