The night lights are just starting to twinkle on the stalls and on the perimeter of the castle in the background as the crowds continue to look around the Christmas Markets that take place every year at the Hexenagger Castle in the village of Hexenagger, which is situated in Bavaria, Germany. These Christmas Markets are an annual tradition and people come from all over the world to experience them.
Hexenagger Castle has a long history, with the first known mention of a castle being in this area occuring in 982. It has been in the Weidenbach Royal Family since 1834 and today is run as a tourist attraction complete with ghosts as it is said to have a very spooky history.
The Christmas Markets are not the only event that take place here every year. ... continue below the picture...
... Due to its haunted past, there is also an annual Halloween extravaganza, a garden and nature show in the Spring and year round access to use the castle for private functions and events. But the most famous and romantic is the Christmas Markets.
The organizers of the event use over 30,000 lights and candles to create a traditional and romantic mood, with Christmas music piping out over the speakers, and the historical feel of the castle in the background. Visitors can buy items such as roasted almonds and mulled wine and for a few hours before you get back to the modern Christmas era, you can be transported back to Medieval times and imagine yourself walking where so many have walked before you.
