The distinctive Romanesque Revival style of architecture of the Old City Hall makes the building a prominent landmark in the city of Toronto and a National Historic Site of Canada.
Built in a large square formation with a central courtyard, the Old City Hall building was one of the largest buildings in Toronto at the time of its completion and features a distinctive 103.6 metre high clock tower, and many arches and towers.
