Photo: Quartz Petrified Wood

Turned into quartz over a period of centuries, as organic material from the log was replaced with minerals, the wood of a petrified log now shows a mosaic of beautiful colours.

Beautiful shades of yellow, red and pure white dominate this slice of petrified wood which has been turned to quartz after centuries of oxygen deprivation and penetration of minerals.

This particular piece of wood, turned quartz, is found in the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, USA.
