On some days looking out over the rough sea from Cape Disappointment you can see the waves heading in to pumel the mouth of the Columbia River in Washington, USA. The waves can reach enormous heights and the sea can be ferocious even on a beautiful sunny day like this when the skies are clear and you can see straight across to the rough and rugged mountains in the background.The mouth of the Columbia River in Washington, USA widens to more than 10 miles and years ago great explorers could never locate it from the water because of the huge sand bars and rough sea that camouflaged it. Today the mouth of the Columbia River is still considered one of the most untrustworthy river bars around the world.During the winter the sea can be so rough that not one boat can get near the mouth of the river because of the large swells crashing in and the powerful tides heading out.
